Host: Should children be allowed to go to the restroom alone while shopping? Nancy McBride: It is really not a good idea for kids to go alone into restrooms while you are shopping and it becomes a dilemma often times especially for moms who have little boys with them, their sons with them. So, make sure that you can at the very least stand outside of the door and give your children a certain amount of time if you must send them into the restroom alone. But if do not have to, it is so much safer, if you accompany your children into the restroom. Check it out, make sure you are comfortable being in there, if anything is going on or anybody is acting in a way that makes you, the adult feel uncomfortable, get your child out of that situation and let mall security know or let store security person know that there is something happening in the restroom they need to investigate. This is not a good place for kids to be alone.
