Sharing Sexual Health Advice With Friends Well, all my girlfriends are talking to me now about how it would be like me. And I say that jokingly, but they want to know what the big secret is and what I find is there is no secret. It’s understanding the science and getting it together and taking that step in getting the hormones sorted out. But having settle that, the obstacles for women to go into their doctor and actually risk and take a chance with hormones, through fighting for a lot of women, and sex unfortunately or fortunately is just not a big enough reason for most women to try hormones. They are willing to I guess continue doing as they’ve always done and play it safe and one of the reasons for that is breast cancer. There is definitely an association between estrogen and a higher breast cancer risk. But there is a much higher association between heart disease and having no estrogen in a woman in her 50s once she goes into menopause. It’s a difference between being hit by a mini cooper, the breast cancer, because it is really a very small number of women compared to the very high number of women who would exposed to heart disease risk, should they not be in hormones. So, the heart disease is like a mud truck. Breast cancer is like a mini cooper. The heart disease problems that you get are so dramatic and so unlikely to come back from a heart attack for instance that I think this is a far greater problem. However, women are stacked on breast cancer because heart disease is a not a reality to them. It’s silent killer, I mean hardening of the arteries happens quietly, you know. You don’t really get evidence of that and when you’re in your 50s and you’re not taking hormones, you’re probably slowing down anyway and you don’t see the capacity you use to have has been lost.
