Lee Swanson: Hi, I’m Lee Swanson, president of Swanson Health Products. It’s my pleasure today to be speaking with Dr. Barbara Hendel, author of the best selling book Water and Salt: The Essence of Life and the Healing Power of Nature. Barbara, you have a thriving medical practice in Germany. Could you tell our viewers briefly about some of the personal experiences your patients have had using the Himalayan salt? Dr. Barbara Hendel: Yes. Nearly every patient in my clinic has to use this salt because it’s not only healthy, it also tastes good. But, I will tell you about some examples. For example, there was a 40-year-old lady who has 6 children, and, you can imagine in the evening, she was groggy and let down… Lee Swanson: Tired. Dr. Barbara Hendel: Tired and she always went to bed at 9:00 and her husband was very [worried] about that. [Then] she tried this 1% solution salt bath… Lee Swanson: Himalayan salt bath. Dr. Barbara Hendel: Himalayan salt bath, yes. And she would lie there for… 30 minutes. And when she comes out, she is a new woman. She has so much energy and her skin was beautiful afterwards. Lee Swanson: You know, I can tell you a story. I enjoy taking a Himalayan salt bath in the evening and if I’m in the bath for a half-hour, I get out and I feel so energized, but I still sleep like a baby afterwards. Dr. Barbara Hendel: Yes, that’s it. Lee Swanson: I’m energized, but also very relaxed. Dr. Barbara Hendel: Yes. You [are relaxed but you also have energy], this is not contradicting. . She’s really happy with this salt, and she bought a big package of this salt because she uses it nearly every day. Her husband uses it too. Lee Swanson: That’s great. With 6 children, she needs a little relaxing… Dr. Barbara Hendel: Yes. She needs a lot. And by the way, this salt is very good when you feel you’re getting a cold. You take this bath in the evening and afterwards, you go to bed, then in the morning, when you wake up it will be gone. Lee Swanson: Now, what, what temperature do you recommend for the bath? About the same temperature as the body is? Dr. Barbara Hendel: Yes. It must be the same temperature— 98 Fahrenheit— Lee Swanson: 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Dr. Barbara Hendel: Yes. In Celsius, it’s 37. [At that temperature], the body can change. We can lose the toxic substances and take the minerals in from the salt water. Lee Swanson: So the saltwater bath does two things. It draws toxins out of the body… Dr. Barbara Hendel: Yes. Lee Swanson: But the natural minerals in the salt – Dr. Barbara Hendel: Go in the body. Lee Swanson: Are absorbed through the skin of the body. It’s a wonderful, wonderful combination. Dr. Barbara Hendel: Yes and your skin gets nice. Don’t take a shower when you go out of this bath. It’s very important that the salt has to remain on the skin. Only dry it like that [lightly pats arm], and then it’s perfect. Lee Swanson: This is interesting Barbara. I met you in Zurich, Switzerland about 4 months ago and you and I are the same age— Dr. Barbara Hendel: Yes. Lee Swanson: We’re 56 years old, but the first time I met you, I thought you were 32–33 years old. Dr. Barbara Hendel: Oh, thank you, you’re so kind. Lee Swanson: And I think it’s obvious because you have your diet, but a big part of that is also the natural Himalayan salt. Dr. Barbara Hendel: Yes. I take it every day. Lee Swanson: Oh, sure. Dr. Barbara Hendel: And I created a skin care line too. And I use it, of course, but we can talk about that later. Lee Swanson: Well, you’re certainly the youngest 56-year-old-looking lady that I’ve ever seen, Barbara. Dr. Barbara Hendel: Thank you. Lee Swanson: I urge all of you to get a copy of Barbara’s book, and read for yourself her natural health and beauty program. It’s Water and Salt: The Essence of Life and the Healing Power of Nature by Dr. Barbara Hendel. Thank you very much for joining me today, Barbara. Dr. Barbara Hendel: It wa
