Host: What is the relaxation response? Jeannette Bessinger: When the body releases and relaxes out of a stressed state, it takes about eight to ten minutes for our nervous system to shift from a sympathetic nervous system which is where, we go, go, go into the parasympathetic nervous system response and that is a time when our brain waves change, our breathing slows, our muscles relax and we calm.
