EmpowHer How long is the recovery from magnetic resonance (MR) guided focused ultrasound? Dr. Suzanne D. LeBlang, M.D. Neuroradiologist There's a very short recuperation period after the MR guided focused ultrasound procedure and this is probably the biggest advantage of this procedure over the other options for women with fibroids. After the MR guided focused ultrasound procedure the women are in a recuperation room for 30 minutes to one hour. After the procedure, they almost feel like nothing has been done to them. Their in the chair ready to go back to resuming their normal activities and I have had women go back to work either the same day or the next day. They can lift their children the same day. They can go out for dinner. The can go salsa dancing. The only thing you can’t do after the procedure is drive a car and that’s because you received some conscious sedation to make you comfortable on the MRI table but it’s amazing to walk into a room and know that a half an hour after we change the whole inside of the body that women fell as if nothing has been done to them so they can pretty much resume normal activities the same or next day after the procedure. Very infrequently to people complain of cramping that night for which they take some Advil or over-the-counter medication.
