Salt brings out the flavor in food but too much of it can lead to high blood pressure and other health problems. Current guidelines suggest only 2300 milligrams a day for adult. It’s about 1 teaspoon, that’s not much. A main culprit is processed foods like snacks, boxed dinners, luncheon meats. For example, this ham contains 640 milligrams of sodium per slice. Put forth those on your sandwich and you’ve met your requirements for the day. Watching your sodium intake can prevent and treat high blood pressure. Limit the amount of processed foods you eat and cook with less salt. Go for a variety of herbs and spices. Who knows you may find you have a hankering for coriander. What do you do with this? And that’s your daily ounce.
