Questions to Ask Your Doctor Kay Jamison: Patients can get the most out of a relationship with psychologist by being informed themselves. By being educated themselves. By learning as much as they can about their illness. By going in with a list of questions, and badgering, asking, badgering in the best possible sense, not in an annoying sense. But badgering in the sense of asking questions, being critical in the best conceivable sense of being open to the fact that as a patient, you may well be wrong, you may well not know what you'd need to know. And to involve whenever possible your family members in treatment as well and if a psychiatrist isn't open to that to persuade in the psychiatrist to be open to that.
