Dr. Christina Johns: Hi, I am Dr. Christina Johns. Today, we are not in my office or at the hospital because we are going to talk about how to survive the flu at home. Having the flu is such a drag; you feel miserable, you think it's going to last forever; it is no fun at all. But today what we are going to do is talk a little about what the symptoms are, how long the flu lasts and most importantly what you can do to try to make yourself feel better. All I think that you really need to have is a humidifier, a nice warm blanket to snuggle up with, a tall glass of water and time to rest. Remember that the things we're going to talk about today are general guidelines; it doesn't replace having a good relationship with a physician and seeing your doctor to make sure that you have the correct diagnosis. How do I know a lot about this? Well let me tell you. As a pediatrician and an emergency medicine doctor, I see an awful lot of the flu; it's no fun. So how do we survive the flu? Let's get started.
