Melanie Raposo: Hi! Everybody I am Melanie Raposo and welcome to the Pregnancy Show today Andrea Page personal trainer and founder of Fit Mom talks about the importance of working your abdominal muscles during pregnancy and discusses some prenatal exercises you can do at home. Andrea Page: One of the messes is that you can't work your abdominals during pregnancy what's actually I wanted to talk five muscle groups to work during pregnancy. It along with the uterus will assist in the pushing phase labor as well women who have weak abdominal are more likely to have severe damage that will lead to potentially later an age needing surgery, as well as abdominal support the lower back which is of course very important during pregnancy. There may be some complications such as diasthesis recti which is the separation of abdominal which will mean that you will have to modify or potentially sustain from abdominals in later pregnancy if that condition is present having said that without that condition being present women should be doing abdominals within the guidelines. So that's why you have got to get somebody who is qualified and knowledgeable enough to be able to support you in your routine. At home some of the work you can do again though I am always saying in guidance, you have got ball work that you can consider, you have got strength and resistance training again there is DVDs like mine on the market the prenatal yoga vibe DVD that can help a women incorporate an at home workout safely.
