Host: How can I prevent pinkeye? Dr. Laura D. Cook: The only two causes that are actually contagious or that you can contract from somebody else are viral and bacterial and so really, the best treatment and the only treatment is good hand washing or the only thing that can avoid you from contracting this from someone else who is infected is hand washing and good hygiene. So not using towels or linens of others and so I really think that the most important thing that I can say today is to wash your hands very well and to try to avoid spreading this because it's super contagious. In terms of the allergic and toxic conjunctivitis, it just depends on whether you know what you are allergic to and avoiding those substances.
