Raena Morgan: I'm talking with Dr. JaDean Anderson who is a chiropractor. Dr. Anderson, do some chiropractors use physical therapy after a visit? Dr. JaDean Anderson: Yes. This is very common that many chiropractors do physical therapy alongside their spinal adjustments. Raena Morgan: And the reason for that would be? Dr. JaDean Anderson: Physical therapy is addressing more of the soft tissues that occur within the spine when the misalignment occurs, the soft tissues being muscles, ligaments and tendons that are sometimes damaged with the misalignments. So, physical therapy is addressing those issues alongside with the chiropractic adjustment. Raena Morgan: Should a person who's contemplating getting chiropractic treatment look for someone who does give physical therapy afterward? Dr. JaDean Anderson: That is, I guess, up to the doctor because once again, it's patient and case-specific whether or not someone needs more physical therapy alongside the chiropractic adjustments. In some cases, something as simple as applying an ice pack to the area will aid in the recovery of those soft tissues as well. Raena Morgan: Well, thank you very much.
