Dorian Martin: Today, I would like to talk to you about activities you can do with someone with Alzheimer's disease. You can select activities based on things that your loved ones like to do earlier in their life. For instance, my mom loved to sell and loved bright fabrics. So, I bought a coloring book with Mandalas and we would sit together and color the patterns. People with Alzheimer's disease remember their earlier days, find photos of their younger days and use those to spur discussions. Cooking is a great activity you can do with people with Alzheimer's. Baking cookies, kneading bread and making salads are great activities. You can also garden with your loved ones with Alzheimer's. Go out and plant things or read together. Many Alzheimer's patients actually like to hold laundry and that is a great task you can give to them. Another great activity you can do with the person with Alzheimer's disease is to watch old movies and television shows. Many people enjoy spending time with their dogs and cats and that's how I see it as an Alzheimer's disease advocate. You can also go to Google and type in Alzheimer's games to get further information.
