Photodynamic Therapy to Clear Acne Dr. Travis Stork: We have dermatologist Dr. Tess Mauricio backstage right now on our procedure room. She’s starting the procedures called photodynamic therapy on her patient Carrie. Tess welcome back to the show. Thank for being here. Dr. Tess Mauricio: Thank you guys, well -- Dr. Travis Stork: Since so many people are worried about their skin what is this photodynamic therapy all about? Dr. Tess Mauricio: Photodynamic therapy, three letters PDT is really a three- step procedure that is a breakthrough treatment and can help many patients out there suffering from acne, sun damage and crease skin cancers. I’m using the eMax from Syneron and what this is doing, the light is activating it and it really destroys oil glands which is a huge problem for patients with acne, so we just treat her, her whole entire face, and then we’ll get to see her later in the end and see how she look. Dr. Andrew P. Ordon: You’ve been using your laser treatment to treat the two most common skin problems that we see, sun damage and acne. Dr. Tess Mauricio: And with the photodynamic therapy treatment, PDT, we’re addressing those two problems in one treatment. Dr. Andrew P. Ordon: Okay, I want to just remind everybody the way that you looked before the treatments. Let’s just take a look. I mean that acne was going on and now let’s compare after the treatments. Very impressive. Dr. Tess Mauricio: What do you think Carrie? Dr. Andrew P. Ordon: And how many sessions to get from that point to where we are now? Dr. Tess Mauricio: Well, this is after third treatment. And so series of treatment can really make a significant difference and this is her immediately after the procedure and you can see there’s hardly any redness or swelling. The only thing about it that sorts of deceiving is that she really has to stay out of the sun completely for 48 hours. And Carrie can tell you it’s been huge for her. Carrie: Oh! Huge, like -- Dr. Andrew P. Ordon: Are you happy? Carrie: Yes. Dr. Travis Stork: You look wonderful. Carrie: Thank you. Dr. Travis Stork: Thank you so much Dr. Mauricio.
