People eat, they get fat, and up and down we go. What are some permanent changes we can make to our daily life to keep the weight off for good? Dr. Steven Gullo: Well, I could give you the usual ones, watch the volume and portion control, drink a lot of water, but I could also tell you the insider tips. First of all, thin starts in the supermarket. Don't buy it and bring it home, the number one place where people fail is not the great restaurants of the world. Divya Gugnani: It's at home. Dr. Steven Gullo: But in their own kitchens, with the foods they bought and brought home. So, when you go shopping, never go shopping hungry and don't put in that shopping card. If you have a history of abusing it or you'll end up wearing it. Also, treat the calories like dollars. Your body has a budget. Do you really love it or not to spend your calories on this food? Another tip, doesn't concern food, doesn't concern behavior, but understanding yourself. People who have weight issues have volume issues, its all about volume Divya. Those who can have a little don't need meal. And if you know you are a volume eater. I tell my patients, the finishers. They finish whatever is on the plate. Divya Gugnani: I'm a volume eater. I always, I'll just have a dish instead of having two or three bites and just tasting it or having some sort of portion control, I want to eat the whole thing, but really after two bites I've gotten the taste and I had my portion and I should stop myself. Dr. Steven Gullo: Well, let me tell you the technique. Either tell them to give you a half serving. One of my most successful patients who loves dessert pays for the whole dessert and tells them, just bring me one spoon or bring me a half because if it's-- Divya Gugnani: It's a great way to eat. DR. Steven Gullo: If it's on the plate, you are going to be a finisher. Divya Gugnani: Right. Dr. Steven Gullo: And let me tell you the most important change of all. It's not a food, it's not a behavior, it's just changes your thinking. When you make a food more important than your appearance, your health and the quality of your life that food does not enrich your life, it imprisons it. So, think of this not as a deprivation, but liberation. Divya Gugnani: Dr. Steven Gullo, a weight guru to the rich and famous has had over 30 cover stories.
