Henry Anhalt: Certainly what’s most important to keep in mind is that parents in their best desire to help their children need to avoid negative reinforcement don’t do this I told you not to do that, if you do this you know what may happen its important for parents to realize that those kinds of approaches are in particular effective rather in multi disciplinary approach that is the use of exercise, the use of diet, the use of behavior modification. To change childrens behavior and have the whole family participate are key elements in true success. There are a couple of programs that I am aware of one program at my Maimonides Medical Center which I hope found called the kids weight down program and a program here at the Saint Barnabas Medical Center and its body care program called the healthy life program both of these programs excel in that they offer multi disciplinary approaches to children who are over weight, whose families and children require this kind of approach. Henry Anhalt: Like most everything else they requires behavioral changes it’s important to understand that there will be peaks and valleys in terms of how we succeed in maintaining this kind of life style change. Its important not to allow negative feelings to prevent the child from remembering the successes that they have in the past and look forward to success that they will have in the future it can be stressed enough that children will experience abs and flows and their success in approaching life style change.
