Chest percussion is performed over a single layer of clothing avoiding snaps, buttons, and zippers. The hands are placed side by side on a chest wall and the chest is clapped with cupped hands to create a sound similar to a galloping horse. The patient should take slow deep breaths and exhale through pursed lips. Chest percussion maybe performed for 5-7 minutes, if the patient can tolerate it.
