Host: What does NAEYC consider when reviewing a school? Rene Hackney: NAEYC considers a great many things, looking at immunization records and records in the office, looking at safety guidelines, looking at ongoing teacher training and teacher accreditation. They also look at staff ratios, how many per class, how many children per teacher. They ensure that the ratios are met through the guidelines throughout the day in the early care and then after care. They are looking at hygiene things like the bathrooms and the safety issues of medications and chemicals being stored. So, they are really going through those preschools with the fine tooth comb.
