Mother and Daughter Weight Loss Dr. Travis Stork: Weight had always been a problem for mom and daughter duo, Shellay and Amy, they decided to tackle it in big way. Shellay Cremen: I’m Shellay and this is my daughter Amy. Amy Cremen: This does not look sexy. Shellay Cremen: I just want to be happy in my skin, not standing in mirror. We all grow stout. Amy Cremen: Guys, I know exactly what they’re going to say, “She’s cute but I don’t want the rest of her body.” I need this so bad. I need health. Since being home, I’m getting a lot of support from my family and friends and I feel like a completely different person. Shellay Cremen: Since I’ve take off the weight, I feel like I’m 30 again. My husband used to tell me all time that I was beautiful. I am beautiful. Female: She lost 74 pounds. It all comes down to this Amy in order to take the lead from your mom. You need to have lost more than 81 pounds. You lost 104 pounds Amy. Go give your daughter a hug! Dr. Travis Stork: Please welcome Amy and Shellay Cremen. Awesome! So, you’re on for a reason and that, you know we’re talking about this topic of gender specific weight gain in families. If a mother tends to be overweight, their daughters maybe as well, what are your thoughts on that? Shellay Cremen: Well, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about that and one of the things that I came up with was not really so much of what we were eating but the example that I was giving which was sedentary. I was not a mover, my mother was not mover. My mom did not sit around all day eating junk food but she didn’t exercise, she would entertain people, we had a lot of action going on but there was never any physical stuff that went on. Dr. Travis Stork: And maybe that was passed along? Shellay Cremen: I just feel like maybe that has something to do with it because we did not sit around eating junk for all time. Dr. Travis Stork: But what’s so cool is maybe you gained the weight together but you also lost it together. Shellay Cremen: Yeah, we did. Amy Cremen: Yeah. Dr. Jim Sears: That’s really cool. Dr. Travis Stork: And there’s the daughter now. Do you find that you support one another in that now? Clearly, you’re role models in a different way. Amy Cremen: Right, we do and if I see her eating something that we should be eating, I say mom, “Really? I mean what did we do for seven months up there? You don’t want to ruin it.” And it’s good for us to be together and for us that we did it together. Dr. Andrew Ordon: That is such a big plus, doing it as a team, having somebody with you that is encouraging you and discouraging you. Amy Cremen: And holding you accountable is like number one. Dr. Lisa Masterson: Well, I think you guys have a great relationship and you both look phenomenal. Dr. Travis Stork: And you’re teaching everyone at home that yes, if you’re an overweight mother, you may have overweight daughter but that doesn’t mean that your whole lives, you have to be overweight. Shellay and Amy, thank you for joining us and sharing your story.
