Margo Rey's Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy Margo Rey: I was very lucky to be afforded, you know a really innovative procedure like nipple and skin sparing mastectomy. I didn’t even know that existed. Male: You know I think these innovations and reconstructive surgery are such a great message we need to send to women out there because they’re afraid if they find something to come forward because they’re worried about loosing their breast being deformed. Then I want to go a little step further here in what you already mentioned on the nipple sparing mastectomy technique. So what we do surgically is we open up the breast, we create this very thin flaps, so sort of a subcutaneous mastectomy and we remove you know the sections of the breast like so. Because we created flaps that are so thin, we need to add extra tissue in that and in your case you agreed to use this great new product FLEX HD which is you know a skin product that’s a cellular that the parts of this can be rejected by the body have been removed. So you actually cover the implant with this synthetic skin. You place this in the area where you’ve removed that breast tissue and you close that back up, so you’ve replaced the breast tissue that you’ve removed but maintaining that natural appearance to the breast with intact nipple and a nice natural crease.
