Joanne shares how she lost close to 200 pounds and managed to stay healthy.

My name is Joanne Sgro and I am a personal trainer and instructor but I use to weigh 340 pounds which is why I decided to take on a role in the fitness room. I fell in love with fitness and I decided that this was something that other people needed to know about. In 1997, I weighed 340 pounds and I lost about 185 pounds all through diet and exercise making up some recipes which I have about 300 and something recipes now that I have on my website as well as fitness plans and just kind of develop my own fitness regimen that I wanted to share to other people. To be honest with you, it started out as my best friend Colleen lending me her treadmill and it was a way for me to kind of get started on my own because when you are that heavy, you really don’t feel like there’s much you can do but walking, you can do. So I could barely walk like 2.0 on a treadmill for 10 minutes and now I teach some of the toughest classes in the gym. I’ve run 10-mile races but I think the walking is something that everybody can start out doing and then implementing little resistance training into your routine. When I did that, when I implemented the resistance training into my routine, the weight just flew off because I was raising my metabolic rate.
