Learn About What Pregnancy Trauma Is What is pregnancy trauma and how did you get involved in this field? Dr. Cannada: The number one reason that brings a pregnant trauma patient to the emergency room is usually assaults. They don’t always get orthopedic injuries with assaults. So I decided to focus on the outcome of pregnant trauma patients with orthopedic injuries for a few reasons. During my oral board collection period, I had a 28-week pregnant lady who broke her neck and had no abdominal trauma yet lost her baby and I could comb the literature looking for anything I could on pregnant women with orthopedic injuries. Well it was easy to find information on pregnant women with pelvic fractures and in general on pregnant trauma patients without orthopedic injuries, that pregnant women are in car accidents and fall and break their bones and I wanted to know how that affected their pregnancy.
