Hi everybody! I'm Melanie Raposo and welcome to Mommy's Minute. Medical test during pregnancy can help your obstetrician monitor the development of the baby and check for certain diseases. The most common test you'll undergo while you are pregnant is an ultrasound which is used to confirm your pregnancy and monitor the development of the fetus. An ultrasound is a noninvasive procedure that produces a picture of your baby using sound waves. A hand-held device called the transducers guide over the abdomen as you are lying your back and the data collects that's turned into a picture or video that your obstetrician can look at and you can take home with you. Just to make sure to tell your doctor whether or not you want to know the sex of your baby, because sometimes genital organs can be seen on the ultrasound and can ruin your surprise.
