Learn About the STS112 Mission The crew of STS112 from NASA was guest of honor at the UK’s national space center. They had recently returned from a mission to take and install a 45 foot thrust to the international space station. Amongst them, were British astronauts Pier Sellers who performed three space walks to attach the thrust. He said it was an unbelievable experience. The first time out, the hatch was quite incredible. You opened the big circular hatch in the floor, lift it up and you’re looking straight down 240 miles and it’s the whole world going by at 5 miles as second. He added, that you then just dive out slowly through the hatch float out into space, grab hold of a hand rail. You find yourself hanging under the ship which is barreling over the earth very fast just hanging by a handle and looking at the world go by. For him, it was the most beautiful thing. The space station will be a working laboratory for scientists to undertake experiments for the next 25 years. The crew were welcome to the UK’s national space canter astronomer Sir Patrick Moore, who says they work really could take us beyond the final frontier. The hope is, that this work will help future generations to boldly go where others have never been before.
