Melanie Raposo: Now, what are the primary responsibilities of a midwife? Carolynn Prior: Well, midwifes are primary care providers in Montreal, which means that we are the main person that a person will see. We may refer her to a specialist if there is a complication, but otherwise her midwife will coordinate whole full care. Our responsibilities are the same as any other obstetrical health care provider and that would be to give women options around testing to do screening for health problems and concerns to monitor their labor, and help them get through labor and help the birth of the baby and then postpartum responsibilities are to look after mom and babies for the first six weeks.
