Learn About the Common Heart Disease Risk Factors for Women Cardiovascular Disease in women, hypertension is one of the greatest risk factors. It contributes to the risk of heart attack, stroke, heart failure and death. But diabetes is another very important risk factor for women and diabetes becoming much more epidemic especially in younger women. Smoking although women are less likely to smoke than men, they’re increasing much more rapidly these days. And unfortunately in younger women where the risk of sudden heart attack is accelerated and not associated with really any other risk factor than smoking.
