So, hello! My name is Adrian Richards and today I'm going to be talking a little bit about how the belly button changes with pregnancy and how it can be treated and how one should look after tummy tuck surgery. So, with weight loss or pregnancy, the tummy button tends to change in size and appearance slightly, in particular, if the tissue of the tummy loosens up slightly and the tummy, the umbilicus or belly button tends to becomes slightly more hooded on the superior portion; the upper part of the belly button becomes more hooded and they slightly overhang there. What can be done about this? Well, in the tummy tuck, the belly button or umbilicus is normally recited. So your surgeon will cut around the belly button, leave it on a store and then the skin itself of the tummy comes downwards and then the belly button is brought out through a new opening. There's a lot of a debate in plastic surgery cycles about the best type of belly button, whether it should be round, vertical, a vertically oval-shaped and horizontally and some surgeons use sort of flap techniques which make a sort of a round with a V at the top. Okay, so in my practice, I tend to favor a vertical oval belly button. So that's so gently curved, not quite round, but oval as in any, that's normally, as it would be in any belly button. The other thing I do, a lot of the other surgeons do, is thin out the surrounding tissue around the belly button in sort of an area, that sort of width. Then that is then secured down to the tummy water, gives you sort of a nice sort of gentle sort of curve downwards towards the belly button. So, after tummy tuck procedure, your tummy should look obviously natural. Your belly button should lie in the middle without the overhang, because it's the same belly button but with a different hole. There should be a gentle sort of curve downwards to your belly button and a scar around the belly button. So I think the best scar is an oval, a vertical oval around the belly button which will fade with time and shouldn't really be that noticeable, a year or so far in surgery. Most people will be happy to show their belly button in the bikini or a clothing that shows their midriff following surgery. So again, it's important to talk to your surgeon about how your belly buttons are going to look following surgery. I hope this has been helpful.
