Learn About S.T.D.'s On behalf of Tvlesson.com, this is Dr. Oliver Di Pietro with Drdipietro.com. We’re going to talk about prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. Unfortunately, there is a rise in the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases especially among young people. A lot of these are due to carelessness. People are less careful when they have sex. They don’t practice safe sex as often as they should. Safe sex should be practiced 100% of the time. What is safe sex? Well, the safest sex is no sex. But, if you're going to have sex, you must have sex with a condom. Now, that doesn’t mean that the man has to insist on a condom use, the girl should be the one insisting on a condom use as well. Using a latex condom is the best way to prevent sexually transmitted diseases if you're going to have sex. And unfortunately, the use of a latex condom doesn’t absolutely guarantee that you're not going to contract the sexually transmitted disease. The worst of all STDs today still is HIV. HIV is not curable even though it can be treated. It’s treated like a lifelong disease. The medications have a lot of side effects, they are very expensive, and it’s a lifelong treatment but we’re winning the battle on HIV with many fewer cases of these progressing into full blown AIDS. So, in terms of other sexually transmitted diseases, gonorrhea, Chlamydia and syphilis still are the big ones. So remember practice safe sex. And if you think you have an STD, see your doctor for treatment. On behalf of Tvlesson.com, thank you for watching.
