Male Speaker: What will be the ideal footwear for someone who wants to start jogging and spring, what would you say that would be the right ideal footwear to buy? Dr. Michael Perlstein: Some of the companies make footwear design for different foot types like the high-arch will get one type of shoe and the lower arch with the flatfoot will get another type of shoe. Most of the time, they are secured with laces or the Velcro strap. They have a lot of shock absorption and a lot of support and they are lightweight and they breathe. Male Speaker: Does it have to be very expensive? Dr. Michael Perlstein: There is a variety of shoes that you get, that's not that expensive, but the higher the quality of the shoe, generally the more comfort, the long lasting and the more support. It depends on their body weight, and their foot type. Male Speaker: But if you got to a store that's selling footwear sneakers, that keep behind the counter, who is working to pay tuition and college, is he an expert of footwear? Dr. Michael Perlstein: Generally speaking, the people are working with some of the smaller chains or non-experts and they are really not trained to do the assessment of the foot properly. So getting somebody who has a lot of experience and going to some of the small private stores, will probably do better for you. Most of the children right now are small; they don't need very expensive footwear or anything really special and the kids could actually help pick out the shoe, not by the color but how it feels and have them walk for a few minutes in the store.
