Melanie Raposo: Hi everybody! I am Melanie Raposo, and welcome to Mommy's Minute. If you are starting to feel more bloated than usual, your breasts are sore, and on top of that you are feeling nauseous, you could be pregnant. But you need to be sure. Well, then it's time to take a pregnancy test. Now, most women first prefer to take a home pregnancy test before seeing their doctor. Well, with the advances of modern technology, home pregnancy tests are just as effective as tests that you would find in your doctor's office. Pregnancy test can be taken as early as five days before the start of your next period. And how they work? Well, it's simple. Basically all you have to do is urinate on a test strip or stick and usually wait a few minutes for the results. If the test proves positive, then you are pregnant. Even if your home pregnancy test is positive, it's important to also visit your doctor and get him to do his own test to confirm the pregnancy. This usually involves taking a sample of blood and measuring your hCG levels. But the bonus to taking this type of test is that it can measure approximately how far along you are.
