Osteopathy is a holistic therapy developed in the 1870’s by American doctor Andrew Taylorstill. Osteopaths are doctors. They treat a wide range of conditions not just pertaining to the muscular-skeletal system. Osteopaths treat the whole body. They are able to trace the effect of a localized injury through the rest of the body. If you come for a session involving a sore knee, the osteopath will note the effect that favoring that knee has had on the opposite hip, the lower back muscles, the corresponding shoulder, and neck. In order to fix this knee, they will realign the whole body. Osteopaths very rarely used chiropractic style manipulation technique. They used stretches and counter resistance instead. They will hold you in one position while instructing you to tense and release particular muscles. You help to heal yourself in an osteopathic session. There is no bone crunching of pummels. It’s a much more subtle technique. Osteopaths believe that certain symptoms developed according to which vertebrae are out of alignment. For example, scoliosis around the middle of the back maybe responsible for misaligned diaphragm leading to asthma attacks. Fuse vertebrae in the lower back maybe the reason why a women might be prone to breached births. The osteopaths main aim is to get the spine in perfect alignment for the enhance physiological functioning of the whole person. Babies and the old and frail can visit osteopaths too. The cranial cycle technique will probably be used in these cases. It’s an energy based healing involving the release of energy blockages from the spine merely by the laying on of hands. Not all osteopaths practice cranial cycle. It’s becoming a forgotten technique as osteopathy aligns itself with more mainstream practices. But the good old fashioned osteopaths trained in a Taylorstill method will have it in their repertoire. Be prepared not to get to know your osteopath very well, this form of healing is so effective, you won't have to stick around for long. With heart disease and stroke on the rise, it pays to eat less cholesterol and more of the good fats. Omega 3’s or N3 fatty acids as they are known to scientist are the best. Clinical studies have proven them to lower bad cholesterol decreasing inflammation of the blood vessels and prevent cancer. They are also fantastic food for the brain. So how can you fit more omega 3’s in to your daily diet? Deep ocean fish such as tuna, and salmon are a good source. Sardines and shell fish are not far behind. Make sure you choose wild fish, farmed fish are fed grains low in omega 3’s. You need a sea creature that has eaten a wild diet of omega 3 rich algae. Trying to up the omega 3’s while avoiding mercury in fish maybe a bit tricky. You have to do some research. Eggs are an excellent source of omega 3’s. You can even get omega 3 in rich eggs from hens raised on a special diet. The omega 3 goodness is found in the yolks, so don’t discard them in an effort to cut calories. Meat and dairy are excellent sources of omega 3’s. But make sure you choose grass fed animals. Grain fed animals are low in omega 3’s and high in omega 6’s, which cause inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, thrombosis, and cardio vascular disease. The very thing you are trying to avoid. Scientists believe omega 3 supplementation is crucial to everyone’s diet. Are you getting enough in yours? Be careful with your choice of cooking oil. Some such as sunflower are very high in inflammatory omega 6’s.
