The late 19th Century give rise to a new martial art in Japan. Judo means the gentle way and it’s practiced in countries all over the world as a way to increase physical and mental fitness. A main component in judo training is sparring or randori. This is when two opponents practice maneuvers against each other. The main aim is to throw or over balance your opponent and immobilize them with a hold or a choke. Judo differs from other martial arts and that it is less about the attack and more about how to redirect the opponents aggressive energy back to all of them. For example, if an opponent launches toward a judoka, the judoka may simply step aside with the leg extended and let the attacker trick himself up, so to speak. Karate and weaponry training are all part of the judo discipline but only as ways to maintain fitness, never as techniques in a sparring match. Immense physical strength and mental power are used in the grappling stages of a judo spar. It’s little wonder but judoka burn just under 600 calories an hour. Mental processes and reflex times become sharply honed as a judoka tries to predict or second guess his opponent’s next move. Flexibility becomes paramount. Every part of the body is employed in judo. You can overthrow an opponent with legs, arms, hips or hands. Learning how to land without injury is almost a mountain itself. Judo may be called the gentle way but it sure is a powerful and intense way to keep fit and healthy. It glitters and it’s glamorous and every girl feels like a million dollars when she’s dressed up in her best jewelry. But aside from the luxuriant feel good factor, jewelry may actually be good for your health. Alternative practitioners believe that certain gems and metals have an impact on your chakra system. Chakras are those invisible wheels of energy that act as an information interface between your physical body and the environment. They regulate the hormonal system and energize specific organs. If you were suffering from persistent colds and feel that it might be psychosomatic, wearing amethyst, aquamarine or blue topaz on your throat chakra may help clear any energy blocks. In ayurvedic medicine, pearls are used to heal tuberculosis, chest infections and heart disease. They even go so far as to eat the ground gem. Diamonds align themselves well with the crown chakra on top of the head. They are said to enhance mental clarity. They are used ayurvedic medicine to heal epilepsy, insanity and dementia. Some people stay clear of jewelry for political reasons. But perhaps a trip to the antique for a recycled emerald or ruby will be more of a guilt free indulgence. You can be sparkling with good health and happiness. Judo is so effective it is used by law enforcement agencies across the world to subdue criminals.
