Danilo: It is estimated that 7 to 10 million Americans suffer from Fibromyosis Syndrome or FMS. FMS has an adverse impact on the quality of life but this is characterized by wide spread body pain, stiffness, chronic fatigue and varying degrees of anxiety and depression. Beth: My big concentration is, there could be depression. Fatigue is probably the number one limitation that we hear about. Danilo: Most people living with FMS report difficulty sleeping and concentrating, headaches, and other symptoms, which are not only painful but lead to missing work more. Millions of people live with the pain and don’t talk about their illness. Donald: Fibromyalgia, depending on the region or the country, is often a misunderstood condition and it may not be that intent on the part of coworkers and players. It maybe misunderstanding or misstereotyped, the issue isn’t that a person have Fibromyalgia, the issue is that that person have a medical condition that needs assistance. Danilo: Uslan is a certified rehabilitation councilor who specializes on the treatment of patients with chronic medical conditions including FMS. There are often simple steps to keep employees in the work force. Kristen: Even for small business I have, part of my other network is a very small business, there are just 5 of us here. It’s not expensive to have everyone have some wrist supports and mouth supports, and you don’t want anyone getting muscle pain syndrome. Danilo: There are many possible accommodations to help workers with FMS keep working. This include written structured job assignments with flexible hours, periodic rest periods to help reduce job stress, along with counseling and work station accommodations.
