Hi everybody! I'm Melanie Raposo and welcome to Mommy's Minute. If you are thinking about getting pregnant, it's important to be aware of the possibility of having a child with a birth defect. Birth defects are abnormality which affect the structure or function of a baby. This can be both mental or physical. Birth defects are actually passed along from parents. In some cases only one parent needs to have the genetic defect in order to pass it along to the child. In other cases both parents need to.
