Learn about Heart Attacks and Homeopathy Host: Heart attack, it’s everyone’s greatest fear as they indulge in a creamy dessert or light up the next cigarette. Heart attacks don’t just exist in the room of the elderly. Warning signs might not include centralized pain in the chest especially if you're a woman. Pain might appear in other places like the shoulders, neck or oddly enough the teeth. So what’s actually happening during a heart attack? Dr. Martyn Thomas: A heart attack is caused when one of the arteries supplying the muscle of the heart blocks off. Just so you can see that there is a tube, an artery and it’s suddenly stops and so from the moment that happens the muscle is being damaged so the heart is being damaged in the fast that one can restore flow in that artery then the better the outcome to the patient but in the short term and the long term. Host: We all know by now the things to avoid, a diet rich in saturated fats, not enough exercise, cigarettes, all the tempting niceties of the modern lifestyle that might contribute to a blocked arterial tube. Moderation might be the key to avoiding that bypass. John Reckless: The problem with heart disease is that we don’t know things are happening to our heart isn’t until something suddenly happens on a heart attack comes and therefore we do need to think about the risk factors, the smoking, the high blood pressure, the high cholesterol, the things that we don’t feel and unless we take an interest in we won’t know about. So I think it is involved in the people do think about that in their lives and when enough opportunity arises that they go and think about whether they need to take some proactive steps. Host: The first hour of the heart attack is called the golden hour because if you get yourself to hospital as soon as you suspect something is wrong you have a fighting chance of coming home again. So familiarize yourself with the odd symptoms like nausea, cold sweats and shortness of breath. Keep yourself coughing to massage your own heart if you can. A heart attack doesn’t have to be the end. It can be the turning over of a new leaf. Homeopathy is perhaps the most contentious of all the natural medicines and it’s easy to see why people might misunderstand it. It’s based on the law of similes which suggest that if a person is displaying certain symptoms a substance that creates the very same symptoms is just what they need to get better. It sounds confusing? For example, in large doses Ipecac causes vomiting. In minute doses it quells nausea very effectively. Similarly, Quinine in large doses causes fever yet it is actually used medicinally in small doses to quell fever. A homeopath makes great use of this interesting phenomenon. They believe they’re stimulating the body to heal itself by administering substances that mimic the symptoms of the patient’s disease. The ancients were onto it way back in 400 B.C. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, stumbled across this intriguing biochemical trend but it wasn’t until the 1800’s that this time of medicine took off. Homeopaths treat a wide range of illnesses, anything from exner and asthma to stress and headaches. They used medicines derived from plants, animals and minerals in minute doses. This unique form of medicine could hold the key to your wellness. Choose a registered practitioner and advise your doctor of any medications you're on. Fatigue and anxiety can also be sign that’s always not right with your heart.
