Male Speaker: What is caloric intake and expenditure? Taras Raggio: Caloric intake is the recommended daily allowance a person should consume in order to maintain a healthy body weight. For example a person who does not exercise or incorporates little to no physical activity in their daily routine the calorie intake for women is 1,800 calories and then the caloric intake for men would be 2400 calories. Expenditure on the other hand is the balance between calories consumed and then calories burned. So when there is a balance between calories consumed and calories burned, the weight remains the same; of a person who is underweight needs to develop a negative balance energy to consume more weight in order to meet their goals.
