Learn about Division of Integers In this track the division of integers when the signs of the integers come into play. We have two problems. The first one wants us to divide 10 ÷ (-5). The key to remember when we are dividing, if the signs of the dividend and divisor are different the quotient which is the result is negative. That’s key thing to remember. So in this case, the number being divided is 10. The divisor is -5 which means the signs are different. So when I divide 10 by 5 the answer is 2 but because both of them have different signs the value is -2. So the answer to 10 ÷ (-5) is -2. Let’s try the second problem which is evaluate the expression a ÷ b so we want a ÷ b when a = -10 and b = -5. Notice that both signs are the same. Both signs are negative so in this case 10 ÷ 5 gives me 2 so a ÷ b will be 10 ÷ 5 is 2 since both are positive the answer will be positive. So the result is +2. The key to remember is the signs. If the dividend and divisor have different signs the result is negative.
