In cystic fibrosis, a faulty gene makes the surface of lung vulnerable to infection. If correct genes could be implanted in the lungs, the problem would be cured. One technique still being tested involves patients inhaling small droplets or liposomes. The liposomes would have the healthy genes stuck on to their surface. The liposomes enter the cells taking the genes with them. Once inside the cells, the new genes can work to keep the cell healthy.
