Learn about Cholesterol Spread, Cruises and Canoeing Female: So you have your cholesterol test and it’s over 5.5. Well, you’re not alone. Millions are saying goodbye to that morning dairy and lunch time pizza. It’s time to get that LDL or bad cholesterol out of your system. How about substituting all of that rich creamy butter with a cholesterol reducing spread? It looks the same, it tastes the same but it has a completely different impact on your body. Dairy is full of saturated fats. This encourages the deposit of wax like cholesterol on the insides of your arteries blocking the flow and increasing the pressure. Cholesterol reducing spreads are enriched with plant sterols. These are waxy substances that compete with cholesterol for replacing your bloodstream and they usually win. Unlike LDL, they don’t form plaque on the arteries. Where does all that horrible cholesterol go? Straight out of your system down the toilet. Eating the right the fats making it to the gym regularly and giving out the smokes will put your cholesterol levels back in the healthy range. Dr. Frankie Robinson: I think it’s really important that the messages that they're giving are very clear and it’s very clear just who will benefit from these products and also they are in a context of having a healthy lifestyle and a healthy6 diet. Female: Use your cholesterol reducing spread just like you would traditional butter. Spread it on sandwiches, use it to bake your own biscuits and to treats. Life doesn’t have to be boring just because you’ve got high cholesterol, the more plant sterols in your system the less chance of cholesterol making an unwanted appearance. Bon Apetit! Are you one of those people who have suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder? In other words that days are getting short, the sun is not quite as warm as you’d like it. You’ve got the winter time blues. It’s a serious issue. Lack of sunlight can lead to depression and osteoporosis. What better way to get a seasonal heat of vitamin D than by taking to the high seas and cruising off to an exotic location just what the doctor wanted. Morning Yoga on some distant beach, you can picture it now. If it only sounds a little too relaxing jump into some onboard action try some climbing sports as you sail on to the next perfect destination. Tone challenge achieved. A cruise is the perfect way to make people relax and have fun. Basking in the sunlight, soaking up that fresh sea air it’s your best bet for keeping the winter time blues at bay. Here’s a great way to get a low impact workout and nature fix at the same time. Canoeing improves your cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility. The workout it can be as intense or— as you’d like it. Just choose your location, a calm urban stream or some wild river rapids for an extra workout. The twisting rowing action needed for canoeing is great for arm, shoulder, chest and upper torso strength but your legs get an intense workout too because the power to propel the vessel forward comes from applying pressure to your legs. You may end up in the river at some stage so it’s wise to be a competent swimmer just incase. It’s not only overweight people who get high cholesterol. Slender people should give a watch too.
