Large Healthy Snacks to Keep You Full Male: So let's talk about snacks size. Male: We've talked about on the show, so it’s important to eat periodically over the course of the day. We say twice as often but consume half the amount each time you eat. Well, snacks come into play. That’s a big part of that butt. I think the problem is that when you think of snack. You think of “treat.” You know something that you want to reward yourself with something that’s yummy. Well, in terms of calories and things that may come back to bite you. So I have a question here for the audience. We have a nice turkey sandwich of white Italian bread. We have some pickles I see, onions, other good stuff in there and a chocolate muffin. Now which wish do you think has more calories here? Audiences: The sandwich. Male: Sandwich. I see a lot of -- Male: We see sandwiches. I see a few muffins here in front. Male: The muffin is 660 calories. For your chocolate, chocolate muffin, right? Male: A pure sugar too. Male: Well, pure sugar, yeah, and that’s the point here -- Female: No, there's no value there at all. Male: With that, you have 33 grams of fat and -- Female: But it’s a tasty treat, but it’s just chockfull of calories. That’s the problem. Male: Exactly. Female: You can't trade one with the others. Male: So I'm curious, what is the turkey? Male: Much better choice, 280 calories, a lot more or less than half of the number of calories. Female: See that’s more one you might look at. You may think the muffins are smaller. That’s where the size comes in. you think muffin is smaller so the turkey is going to have less calories for all the big all family. Male: Toss the muffin here. And I think this is what we call --- Male: Do you want a spiral? Male: Yeah, over the -- Male: Oh, nice pass. This is a calorie dance food. You feel how heavy that is. Male: Wow, yeah. Male: Its loadable of calories because it’s all smooched into that muffin, the fats and the sugar. Male: It smells good though. Male: I guess vegetables. That is a sandwich. Notice there's no mayonnaise on it and that is loaded with vegetables, a lean protein which is turkey. So you got this massive meal that’s going to fill your belly. Make you feel satiated for half of the calories. Male: Well, I guarantee you if I ate that muffin as a snack. I want to take a nap. Female: Now what about you? Male: Hey, I'm going to get hungry sooner. Female: This is a play on thought. Look at that because what do you have? Male: Well, I've got a nice grilled chicken salad versus a bag of chips, all right. And you know, how many times do you see somebody just snacking on a bag of chips? You know what I'm thinking; it’s in between, so that you can grab that on the go either while you're driving or whatever going from place to place. But people don’t realize that I'm going to show you the difference in calories here. That salad, 195 calories, the chips totaled in 40 calories. So this is a meal in itself compared to the grilled chicken salad. And this is so much better. The salad has 6 -- only just under 7 grams of fat, 23 grams of protein. So this is a really good meal. The bag of chips, it’s almost opposite, a lot more fat than protein, 13 grams of fat, only 3 grams of protein. So it’s got the calories but its not empty calories. It’s not going to sustain you. Female: Well, that’s the thing about snacks. Jim touched on it. The fact of a snack beside maybe sometimes of being a treat is that you can eat it on the go or on moving, moving, moving and its like even though this is a nice healthy snack. This -- which would you think? Do you think this has a lot more calories than this? Male: Very few cookies here. Female: Okay, there's only a ten calorie difference here. Male: But if you want a snack on the go and be healthy, my recommendations are pack some almonds, some fruit, dried fruit, and apples. Male: Raisins. Male: Do that when you're on the go. Male: I love the box of raisins. That’s a great snack. Female: Yeah
