Placement of a laparoscopic adjustable band, either a LAP-BAND® or a REALIZE Band, is much safer than a gastric bypass procedure. Complications will occur and can occur, but much less frequently, and it’s a rarity. Some of the warning signs with the LAP-BAND® would be inability to drink or eat. Inability to swallow your own saliva will be a sign that you cannot pass any fluid and the band may be too tight. Abdominal pain is an important sign after any operation. So, but the other warning signs that we see sometimes with the gastric bypass we do not really see with the LAP-BAND®.
