My name is Dr. Chris Christensen. I’m the head of joint replacement at the Lexington Clinic in Lexington Kentucky. Obesity undeniably increases the rate of knee arthritis. The way it does that is probably through just an increase mass in the body creating more than normal forces passing off, passing through a, you know a given area, you know, that being the knee joint. And so when you have got more force per area over time, the cartilage will not tolerate that additional force and cartilage break down and arthritis results.
