Welcome to yoga for surfers. I am Peggy Hall. There is nothing I’d rather do than surf, and yoga helps me do just that. In fact, yoga is one of the best activities you can do to enhance your surfing. If you have been looking for a way to improve your performance in the water to avoid chronic pain in your shoulders, knees, lower back or neck, then you’d probably find like many surfers have that yoga can help. In this yoga program, you will learn surf specific moves that will help you prevent injury. Increase your strength and flexibility, improve your balance and sharpen your mental focus. You will be able to shorten your recovery time between sessions and to surf better, longer. As you continue to practice yoga, not only will your surfing improve but many aspects of your life will be enhanced as well. Yoga for surfers has three parts. A pre-surf session to energize your body and warm up all your surfing muscles, A water sessions with moves you can do on your board to stay loose, warm and focused, and a pole surf session with rejuvenating poses to relax your mind and body. For more challenging program, check out Yoga for Surfers volume 2. It is an excellent conditioning workout that you can do when the surf is flat. Yoga is not only just about flexibility. Yoga is about awareness, about being fully alive in each moment, about finding a deep sense of well-being and inner strength by connecting the mind and body through the energy of the breathe. So to get the most from your yoga program, breathe deeply and slowly with your mouth closed. A good pace is inhale for 4 counts and exhale for 4. This deep breathing is perfect to do between sets or whenever you want to restore your energy and focus your mind. Yoga breathing will give you that extra edge in the water and in your life. So whether you surf here at Sunset Beach or California, whether you are new to surfing, a seasoned pro or somewhere in between, I am confident that yoga for surfers will help you take your surfing to the next level. Now, please join me and my friends Rochelle, Taylor and David in yoga for surfers.
