Host: How can parents introduce longer stories or chapter books without pictures? Dr. Rene Hackey: So the idea with chapter books is to go ahead and read your picture books first so the child doesn't feel slided and then pick up the chapter book and read it as a bonus, as an extra when they are already laying down for either nap time or sleep time, so that they are able to build those pictures in their minds and talk to them about the things that happen before and after each night when you are reading to build that comprehension over time.
