Rebeca Braitn: If you think your only eco-friendly transportation options are expensive hybrids or a bike, think again. Hi! I am Rebeca Braitn and welcome to watchmojo.com and today we will be checking out the latest in the struggle to stay green. Would you say this is an alternative to a car, or a bike, or a motorcycle, or all of the above? David Goldmann: It's another mode of transportation. You don't need to take your car everywhere, but this, you can still go on your areas around town. You don't need to use gasoline. You should take a break, take a break from your car and take a break from traffic, and go on one of this. Rebeca Braitn: Now, what are the different types? David Goldmann: We have an electric vehicle which is a limited speed motorcycle and it looks like a scooter. And we have an electric bike which is a scooter style, but it's a lower speed. Rebeca Braitn: Are these safe for public roads? David Goldmann: The limited speed motorcycle, that is street legal. You have to get a permit, you have to have a license plate on the back, and you need a driver's license. Just, a regular driver's license. It goes about 60 kilometres speed and it will have a 60 kilometers range. Basically, it will get to anywhere you want to go in the city. The electric bike is 32 kilometres limited speed which is the legal limit. You could drive it on a street but on the side of the road, not in traffic. Rebeca Braitn: What makes an electric bike energy-efficient? David Goldmann: It will cost you about 4 to 7 kilowatts per 100 kilometers. So, if you calculate it on average, it costs you less than $0.5 per kilometers. Rebeca Braitn: So, why don't you show us some of the bikes? David Goldmann: This is our EVT, one of our EVT 168 style scooters. It's a limited speed motorcycle. It's equivalent to a 49 cc Vespa. But there's no cc's. Under the seat, you can see they have four lead-acid batteries, they are like what you find in your car. And in this guy here, the orange one, we have lithium-ion battery in this particular model. In the back here, we have what we call the Newman Velocity. These are electric bikes. This one with the model, the Velocity has stereo system with speakers and an iPod attachment. Batteries are under the carpet and you can take them out, and you could charge them out at your desk or say at work or wherever. This will charge in about 6 hours. If you have a full charge, it will get you 40 kilometers range. The EVTs will charge in 4 hours and you will get an 60 kilometers range. So it will cost you just pennies per charge. You can get all around town with these guys.
