After the LAP-BAND procedure, the patient can go home the same day after surgery or the following day after the procedure, depending on the physician. After gastric bypass surgery, the patient can go home in two or three days and usually the patient leaves the hospital with minimum pain, and the patient is placed on oral analgesic pain medication, and she is advised to do very minimum activities. Walking is allowed. Patient is encouraged to not just to stay in bed all day but to be ambulatory.
