Getting Started on Your Home Energy Audit Heidi: Phase one of greening an existing home involves a home energy audit. Today we have with us Gary Kahanak of Home Energy Consultants. He’s going to tell us a little bit more about what home energy audit entails and then we’re going to follow him through the step-by-step process of going through our customer’s home and doing the audit. Gary, go ahead and tell us a little bit more about what you do. Gary Kahanak: Sure, thanks Heidi. Well, today we’ll be doing what’s called a diagnostic home energy audit. We bring in various pieces of equipment and measuring the lickness of the building in below, the lickness of the duct work and basically looking at everything in our house that has to do with consumption of energy. And it considers the house as a system, a lot of systems that worked together. Each house is unique. Some things may be obvious as far as being energy lengths but you have to be a little bit of detective. So in the end after I clicked all of this information I’ll put together a plan and approach when implemented will actually result in a lot of energy savings. So that’s what we’re going to be doing here today. Heidi: Very great, okay so what’s step one? Gary Kahanak: To start off we’ll do an infrared thermal scan. It’s a type of camera that actually seized in the infrared and that gives us some clues as to how good of a job of insulating what’s done on the houses built. Heidi: Great! Well, let’s go ahead and get started with that.
