EmpowHer Aks: Can Chinese medicine be effective in helping a woman suffering from cancer? Dr. Maoshing Ni: In our work, we work with a lot of patients undergoing cancer therapy for example, breast cancer, urine cancer, ovarian cancer, a lot of women because we do specialize woman's health, we get a lot of these patients and we work with many oncologists in our city here. And one of the things we do is acupuncture really helps to relief a lot of the symptoms, the side-effects from chemotherapy and radiation, fatigue is a big one, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, neuropathy where they have nerves damage and their fingers and their toes, constipation, I mean the list goes on and on. Brain fog, they can't think, they can't concentrate. Well we do, in my opinion, a very critical job in supporting the patients so that they suffer minimally and get rid of many of the side effects or symptoms and move importantly, we seek to support their immune system. So that their immune system can be mobilized to fight, to participate in the healing process and so throughout this whole treatment, it's a wonderful collaboration of East and West where we come together and really help patients become sustained through the process of their chemo, radiation surgery so they can complete the program and often times these patients who do this, they have, we have done some studies actually tracking this in China the integrative approach that they have much higher survival rate, cure rate as well as better quality of life. So Chinese medicine is very, very important and very useful during woman's anti-cancer therapies.
