I am Carol Olmstead and my company is called Feng Shui For Real Life. Today, I am showing you how to spring clear with Feng Shui. The first place to start is at your front door because in Feng Shui, we say the front door represents the Mouth of Chi. That's the area where all the good energy enters your house. So take a look around, take a look at that doormat. Has it taken a beading this winter? If so, its time to change it. This is also a good time to clear out those dead leaves, stop planting a few flowers, something like pansies that will hold up in case you have a late show. Then take a look at the door itself. Is it dirty? How many times have you actually dusted your front door? In Feng Shui, we want to take a look at where the dust is. If you have cobwebs, it's really important to get rid of those because cobwebs in Feng Shui represent being stuck and not able to move forward. And check to see, maybe your door needs some painting. The next thing you want to do is take a look at your floor mat. A lot of us put a floor mat down in the winter just to catch all that mud in that we bring in with the snow and the rain. Now is the time to get rid of it and let's put a fresh clean doormat because this is the area where the energy enters your house. Next, I recommend you take a look at what you are keeping in the foyer. For example, are you keeping shoes? A lot of people do, because they find it very convenient. The only problem is in Feng Shui, keeping shoes in your foyer represents walking away from a peaceful life in that home. We don't want that. The best thing to do, keep them out of sight. Let's just put them in your hall closet. If you don't have a hall closet, lets find a piece of furniture, like a small cabinet, to place in the foyer and put your shoes there. Now let's take a look at what's in your hall closet. First of all, let's take a look at what you are holding on to. You have shopping bags and other things at the bottom of your closet. You're really not going to use all of them, time to move them out. If you've got that extra glove that you have been saving in hopes that you will find its made, at this time of the year its time to acknowledge you're never going to find it. Let's get rid of it. Take a look at the coats that you keep in your closet. If you haven't worn an item all winter, it's time to say you are never going to use it again. Take it out of your closet, donate it, sell it, send it along its way where it can do some good. Now that we are finished in your foyer, let's go take a look at your kitchen.
