Fatty Upper Pelvis Area Treatment Dr. Travis Stork: There’s an acronym F.U.P.A. So, I was reading this before the show, Lisa what is F.U.P.A.? Dr. Lisa Masterson: F.U.P.A. stands for Fat Upper Pelvic Area. It may sound funny but it’s real. It’s a common issue and it’s something I see all the time. Dr. Travis Stork: And we have board certified plastic surgeon and neurologist Doctor Gary Alter on polycom to help explain F.U.P.A. So, doctor thanks for being here. Explain these phenomena to us. Dr. Gary Alter: Well, large fatty area includes the pubic area but it also includes the outer lips of the vagina. So, women can come in complaining of a bulge and tight clothes. So, this pubic bulge can be caused by congenital issues or it can be caused by weight gain. If the woman has weight gain and then subsequently loses the weight, she can have extra skin down there. If it’s just isolated fat padding in the pubic area; that can easily be eliminated by doing a little liposuction of the pubic area. But if she’s lost a lot of weight and she needs the pubic area elevated then we have to make an incision and rise up the skin and the pubic area cut out and liposuction the fat and then this gets rid of the bulge there. It’s really not a dangerous operation and it really makes the woman very happy. Dr. Lisa Masterson: Sort of like a mons lift, sort of what Drew does down there. You lift everything up, lift and tighten. Dr. Travis Stork: Doctor Alter, thank you so much for walking us through that. We really appreciate it. Dr. Gary Alter: My pleasure.
