A caregiver can be active with their loved one, with the patient. They can help them in their recovery, and then they could watch for those warning signs. They could see what the patient looks like, if a patient looks ill, down, examine the wounds, make sure they are not infected, red, inflamed, and then care for the drain as well, and report to the doctor if they see any change in the color of the drain, the consistency, or the volume in order to alert the physician that something may be going wrong.
